Quantitative Comparison of the Recrystallization Kinetics of Two Industrially Processed 5xxx Aluminum Alloys

The annealing kinetics of cold-rolled AA5182 and AA5657 aluminum alloy sheets have been investigated compared. microstructures a series partially recrystallized samples are characterized by electron back scattered diffraction key stereological parameters including volume fraction recrystallized, interfacial areas contiguity determined. overall recrystallization as well the nucleation growth rates thereby quantified. results reveal that nuclei develop in clusters. This matches with observation low exponent n = 2 AA5182. Much more surprising is 2.8 AA5657, even though clustered. Also, it higher than almost all investigations which generally find values significantly below 3. Effects rate, spatial distribution rate discussed used quantitative analysis two alloys.
